Saying Goodbye to Summer

Another summer seems to have flown by in the blink of an eye. This was my first summer in Newport Beach and I am sad to see it end! Late night dinners, endless beach days, summer concerts…these were just a few themes of summer ’12. Truthfully, it stills feels like summer….it’s about 86 degrees as I type this. But it’s impossible to ignore the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks, Nordstrom switching out the sandals for boots and the unspoken shift in the air with the changing of the seasons. Even though a Southern California autumn isn’t exactly what I’m accustomed to I’m still excited about arrival of fall and saying goodbye to summer…for now 🙂

What you will miss most about summer?

Baking Mishaps

I wanted to post about cinnamon donut holes I made for my family over the weekend. Crisp and sugary, filled with a vanilla scented custard.  Served warm.
I hoped to take tons of fabulous photos and when you saw them they would make you hungry from in front of your computer screens. I just knew you would all rush to the store for heavy cream and heat up your frying oil to whip up a batch yourselves!

That was my plan.

But sometimes custard doesn’t set. And in those sometimes there end up being no delicious donut holes with custard, but sad little fried doughs that are soggy from the addition of vanilla soup. And it really doesn’t help to put the soggy cinnamon desserts into the freezer to set because all you will end up with is cinnamon rocks.

Now we know.

Instead I bring you some of my favorite fall fashion campaigns of 2012. Even though it is still in the 80’s (which is practically a heat wave here on the coast) summer is officially over and the fall fashion has officially begun.
